Statement
A flattened visual field with large light and dark shapes resembling
shadows on a wall are used as a basis for color exploration.
The paint
is applied with brush marks that are spotted on and overlaid with marks
to achieve a vibrancy and saturation of color.
Juxtaposed
to these areas are one or more stripes, either put along the edge of
the work or through the color field. This softens the large shapes and
creates an interaction that develops an awareness of the overall
painting surface.
These
ideas evolved through the influences of Impressionism with the
concentration of limited space and surface importance, inspired by the
New York Abstract Expressionist Movement.
